This was a very simple craft to prepare for my 3rd and 4th grade elementary kids while teaching in South Korea.
I drew out the simple template on the top left using simple shapes. Then I photocopied one for each student.
Their task was to design their own character from the template. This was a good 40 minute class which followed a review period of a short list of new vocabulary they had learned from a unit in their books.
Each student was also given a strip of paper, the width of the mouth area, which they folded like an accordian. This strip of paper was to be the tongue and they would write their new words on it.
The kids had a great down time creating while reviewing their spelling and they came up with some cool ways to design the basic template.
