Street Art

With the constant building and industrial development of the world a lot of us are surrounded by, street art has never been more important for our mental health. Living in a huge city with no garden and endless concrete city blocks, day in and day out, can have a terrible affect on our mentality. When I turn a corner and I am suddenly faced with a stunning art piece on a wall or on the side of a building or trash can or just in chalks on the pavement, I feel that I have stumbled on a little piece of hidden treasure in a giant maze of blank concrete canvases. When I started off my Instagram account a few years ago, all I posted was street art. I had started to teach English abroad and while I struggled to see much street art in the places I lived in South Korea, barring Seoul, I was overwhelmed by how much I suddenly began to notice while living in Spain and back in Ireland. Maybe it was because I had been deprived of it in more sterile, larger cities such as Busan and Ulsan, that I suddenly became more aware of it when I returned to Europe, or maybe there was just more of it around when I came back. Whatever the reason, it is amazing to see a city turning into an open air gallery of art. Not everyone needs to be as mysterious as Banksy. Here are just some of my favourites that I have seen over the years on my travels…
